Presentation guidelines
Duration
Presentations are 20 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for questions and answers
Presentation materials
Presentations are submitted in either Microsft PowerPoint or as a PDF file. A written paper is not required, although if you have recently written a paper on your topic, you are welcome to use it as the basis for your presentation.
Contents
A presentation typically starts with a business or scientific problem that you were trying to address. It then moves to how you formulated a solution. You are not required to have an OLI-only solution: problem solving can include experimental work, external consulting, pilot plant work, etc. At some point your OLI software work (ideally) will be included in some aspect of the problem solving -checking your guess or targeting a temperature / concentration, for example.
Proprietary results
We wish for all presentations to be technically worthwhile to the audience. Therefore, OLI encourages clients to include detailed technical information in their presentations. However, if this information is considered proprietary, then we ask the presenter to include alternate data or hypothetical results.
OLI as co-author
At least one or two clients in every conference choose to co-present with an OLI process simulation expert. If you have a great application but do not have the time or the ability to present, we would still like to include your work. Pease let us know you are interested in working in this way.
Travel restrictions or limitations
Please do not let travel restrictions or possible travel limitations deter you from preparing a client presentation! We would like you to participate. In some cases, we can offer someone at OLI as co-author. In others, we may consider a remote presentation. At past conferences we have had remote presentations from Germany, South Africa, and Calgary. They were all well-received.
Company promotions and advertisements
OLI asks that information about your company be kept to a single slide, and that you avoid any advertisement of your company's technology, products, or services. Participants interested in your talk will be able to follow-up with you during the breaks, luncheons, and dinners. We have facilitated this kind of follow-up business between clients in the past.
